Through an unlikely collaboration between a small cigarmaker and one of the largest cigar manufacturers in the industry, the Warzone Robusto ends up as the only smoke on this year’s Top 25 to have a Cameroon wrapper. It happened when brand owner Erik Espinosa had the opportunity to work with General Cigar and found what he believed to be the perfect bales.
Cameroon tends to be expensive because there aren’t many producers willing to weather the inhospitable conditions required for its cultivation. Cameroon is grown in nearly inaccessible areas of Africa with little infrastructure. And yet, this most exotic of wrappers graces the Warzone, which impressed us with its exquisite tones of leather, almond and chocolate.
