A New Bolivar Made Exclusively For Casa Del Habano Shops

The Cuban Bolivar Gold Medal is back, but this time it’s a little thicker and a little snazzier than previous releases. Called the Bolivar New Gold Medal, the cigar is intended exclusively for La Casa del Habano franchise shops. The Bolivar got its preview party on Wednesday night during the Habanos Festival at El Laguito Protocol Hall, a venue often used to feature new products.
This is not the Bolivar Gold Medal’s first comeback. In 2007, the previously discontinued cigar was resurrected as a Casa del Habano exclusive as well. Like the original, it came wrapped in a signature sleeve of gold foil and was the same size as the first release at 6 1/2 inches by 42 ring gauge. The Bolivar New Gold Medal announced this week is the same length, but thicker at 48 ring gauge. The signature gold foil has also been updated. Whereas the previous foil was sheer gold, the new gold wrapping is embossed with the word “Bolivar” appearing in a repeating pattern.
The Bolivar New Gold Medal comes in 10-count boxes, though there’s no indication as to when the cigars will start reaching the Casa del Habano shops or what they’ll cost. Partially owned by the Cuban government, the franchise shops have traditionally sold only Cuban cigars. According to Habanos, there are currently 157 Casas around the world.
