It may have been two years since Rocky Patel Premium Cigars reached its 20th anniversary milestone, but the company isn't done celebrating just yet. Last week, a line extension of Rocky Patel's Twentieth Anniversary brand began shipping to retailers: a new maduro version that wears a dark, Honduran wrapper grown in the Jamastran Valley.
According to Rocky Patel, the Twentieth Anniversary brand was initially produced in both natural and maduro. However, the company felt the latter blend needed more time to age, so the release was delayed two years.
The company has had success with maduro cigars before, as one of its brands—Rocky Patel Sun Grown Maduro—earned itself the No. 2 spot on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 Cigars of 2016.
Aside from the noticeably darker wrapper, the blend consists of the same Honduran binder and Nicaraguan and Honduran filler tobaccos as the original blend.
It comes in three sizes: Robusto Grande, at 5 inches by 54 ring gauge; Toro, 6 by 52; and Rothchild, 4 1/2 by 50. They're made at the El Paraiso factory in Honduras, ship in boxes of 20 and retail between $10.30 to $12 each.
