The new Trinidad La Trova will have its retail debut tomorrow in eight cigar stores across China, Taiwan, Japan and Southeast Asia. The cigar, which was announced at the Habanos Festival in February, will be released in conjunction with Pacific Cigar Ltd., the official Habanos distributor for the Asia-Pacific region.
It’s set to be a simultaneous launch enjoyed by seven La Casa del Habano shops and one Cohiba Atmosphere, totaling eight participating retailers—a lucky number in Chinese culture. The La Casas are located in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, in Thailand; Hong Kong, Macao and Taipei, in China; Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia; and Tokyo, Japan. The lucky Cohiba Atmosphere is in Bangkok.
The cigar bears a secondary band marking it as a Casa del Habano exclusive, but it appears that Cohiba Atmospheres are included in that list. Some third-party retailers eventually get these cigars.
The pigtail-tipped cigar measures 6 1/2 inches by 52 ring gauge. Referred to as a Cañonazo Especial, the size has not been used by Habanos since the release of the Cohiba 1966 Edición Limitada 2011. It’s the second new Cuban cigar to be released in a week, joining the Cohiba Talismán, which also sports a pigtail.
According to Habanos, the Trinidad La Trova is made in Pinar del Río at the Francisco Donatién Factory, also known as the Vegueros Factory. The building is a few hours outside of Havana, not far from Cuba’s finest tobacco plantations.
The rest of the world will be receiving the Trinidad La Trova soon, although there is no official world as to exactly when or which countries will have them first.
