New Brands From Boutique Blends Coming To IPCPR

Boutique Blends Cigars, best known for its Aging Room line, has a few new releases planned for the upcoming IPCPR trade show in July. Not only is the company coming out with two completely new cigar brands this summer, but it's also adding two new sizes to its existing Aging Room Bin No. 1 line.

The operatically themed La Bohème line, which came out last year, will soon reprise with a darker second act—La Bohème Encantador. Spanish for "enchanted," Encantador will be box-pressed, and also enrobed in a darker, higher-priming Ecuadoran wrapper. The filler is all Dominican.

Though the portrait on the band art will be the same, the color scheme has been slightly adjusted to reflect the new brand. All the original white elements of the first band are now black, and there's a secondary band that reads "Encantador."

"When we first released La Bohème last year, someone told me that the portrait of the woman on the label was enchanting," said Rafael Nodal, owner of Boutique Blends. "That comment stuck with me. And I think turning the white elements of the band black really makes the portrait stand out. It creates a more striking light-on-dark effect."

La Bohème Encantador will retail for $10.25 to $12.24 and come in three sizes, all named after theaters where the opera has been performed: Regio, 5 inches by 46 ring; La Scala, 5 3/4 by 54; and Fenice, a 6 by 52 torpedo. According to Nodal, Encantador is not simply a box-pressed version of the original, but is a slightly different blend with a slightly different character. Nodal estimates a total production run of 400,000 cigars, and then, he says, the line will be finished.

In direct contrast to Encantador, Boutique Blends is also launching Swag Connecticut. Covered in a lightly-hued Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper, the new line is set to come in all the same sizes as the Swag Black: Ego, 6 by 60; Infamous, 6 by 54; Lavish, 5 by 54; and VIP, 4 1/2 by 48. These will retail from $6.95 to $8.98 and are slated for regular production.

Fans of the Aging Room Bin No. 1 will have two new sizes to look forward to as well—the D Major and D Minor. While D Major is an individually coffined, box-pressed cigar measuring 6 1/16 by 54 ($13.90), the D Minor is a slim, 6 1/2 by 38 ring lancero ($12.25). D Minor is the first lancero of any Aging Room cigar.

The Aging Room Bin No. 1 is a strong blend consisting of Ecuadoran wrapper and bold, spicy Dominican tobacco. All brands from Boutique Blends are made in the Dominican Republic at Tabacalera La Palma.
