Mombacho Cigars S.A., the company behind Tierra Volcán and Liga Maestro, is giving its two cigar brands a makeover. The redesigned bands and reconfigured boxes are intended to give both cigars a similar look for more consistent packaging and better brand recognition.
"The new identity will allow all of our products to look and feel like part of the same family," said Mombacho co-founder Markus Raty. "This evolution of our branding will provide clarity and consistency for all our customers."
The Liga Maestro line was previously adorned in a red band with gold trim while Tierra Volcán was dressed in a yellow band with brown trim. Now, both cigars will wear similar Mombacho master bands with a secondary ring that identifies the cigar as either "Liga Maestro" or "Tierra Volcán."
When Liga Maestro was first released, it started as a series made exclusively for Italy, but it is now available for the U.S. market. It comes in fives sizes that retail from $6.95 to $10.95. The new band is black and gold and will be showcased at next week's IPCPR trade show.
Although Mombacho Cigars have been around since 2006, Tierra Volcán (called Mombacho in other countries due to a legal issue) didn't make its U.S. debut until 2014. The primary master band will bear the same Mombacho design pattern as Liga Maestro for consistency, but the color scheme will be brown and gold. The full packaging change for Tierra Volcán isn't expected to be complete until later this year.
This year marks the company's 10th anniversary. Mombacho released a limited-edition cigar to mark the occasion in March. This was the first cigar to bear the new Mombacho master band design now appearing on the other brands.
Mombacho cigars are made in Granada, Nicaragua in an old mansion called Casa Favilli that's been converted to a cigar factory.
