The owners of the Old Allegheny Smoke Shop in Pittsburgh (and one lucky store patron) can smoke a little easier this holiday season as the General Cigar Co. celebrated the debut of its Macanudo Crü Royale by awarding them $10,000.
The giveaway occurred on November 18 during a Macanudo Crü Royale in-store launch party. Only 50 of these launch parties took place nationwide, and each shop that hosted one was given a limited edition Macanudo Crü Royale humidor. Inside 49 of the humidors was a $1,000 prize, and one humidor contained $10,000.
During the event held at Old Allegheny Smoke Shop, which has been in business for 35 years, customers received an envelope with a key inside and each took turns turning their key in an attempt to open the humidor. Marty Giegerich, a Pittsburgh resident and frequent store customer, was the lucky smoker who received the golden key that opened the humidor.
"I have never won anything before," said Giegerich after learning he won. "You have no idea what this $10,000 means to me and my family."
Store owner Steve Boroch, who owns the shop with his parents Kathy and David, received a $10,000 credit for General Cigar product.
"We would have been happy with having any one of our customers win $10,000 but we can't think of anyone more deserving than Marty. We're thrilled that he won the money, especially so close to Christmas," said Boroch.
Debo Mukherjee, vice president of marketing for General Cigar, said of the events, "We set out to generate great excitement for the debut of Macanudo Crü Royale at retail and we're satisfied that we've accomplished that in spades. We're pleased that Lady Luck chose our event to smile on a cigar smoker who will surely put his winnings to good use."
