Black Label El Presidente Flat Flame Lighter

Black Label El Presidente Flat Flame Lighter

The Black Label El Presidente runs on butane fuel, but it's more than just another torch lighter. It's an innovation.

The jet on the El Presidente lighter doesn't shoot out a single rod of intense flame. Instead it emits a triangular flat flame that resembles the head of a paintbrush. This diffused flame mimics a lit match or cedar strip, placing considerable lighting control into the hands of a cigar enthusiast. Rather than torching your cigar, the flame (which is about 3/8 of an inch wide and wind resistant) encourages the gentle toasting of the cigar's foot in a smooth motion, similar to painting.

The calm flame makes touch-ups easier as well. It also uses less butane than a conventional torch lighter.

The lighting action on the El Presidente is simple and smooth. The cap flips back with a flick of the thumb and a sliding ignition button on the body triggers the flame.

The El Presidente's all-metal design is solid in the hand and it feels light in the pocket, not at all cumbersome. The lighter comes in two designs-a copper and black scheme or an all-black carbon-fiber model.

The Black Label El President flat flame lighter sells for about $100 and is available at fine cigar shops nationwide.

"Vector is how I roll. Best customer service anywhere." —February 8, 2013 17:13 PM
"I purchased one and within two weeks sent it back. Flame sputtered way too often. I then purchased a colibri providence triple flame, an absolute ideal lighter for the aficionado on the go." —November 29, 2012 19:33 PM
"I received one for Christmas and this quickly became my favorite lighter. The wide flame helps prevents hot-spots from occurring. One really does "paint" the foot of the cigar with the flame. I have not had the issue of the hot hinge and flip-top." —January 20, 2012 19:56 PM
"The wide-flame works very well, but the hinge and flip-top get ridiculously hot. A single pencil flame torch works fine, if you carefully move it around." —January 15, 2012 07:56 AM
"George, I believe a 3-torch version would defeat the purpose of the flat flame. To the extent a triple torch is superior to a single torch, it is because one can light a greater surface area of the foot of the cigar without diminishing the precision touch torch lighters are good for. A flat torch like the Black Label above will ignite a wide surface area (like a triple torch), without charring/overburning, which can happen when triple torches are used carelessly." —January 13, 2012 19:49 PM
"Great idea, I would love to see this in a triple flat flame. " —January 4, 2012 16:55 PM
"I picked one up about three weeks ago and love it. The wide flame is especially well suited for high ring gauges, but it works great on my lanceros too. Best lighter I've bought in a long time." —December 22, 2011 22:46 PM
"Has anyone picked this up yet? I'm looking for a good lighter, is this worth the Buck? " —December 22, 2011 02:14 AM
