California-based Ventura Cigar Co. is preparing to release the third chapter in its Archetype cigar series. Called Archetype Chapter 3, the latest collection is composed of two cigar brands made by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo—Sacred Scales and Dawn of Destiny. Both Archetype blends will be on display at the IPCPR trade show later this month.
While neither brand has officially launched yet, Sacred Scales first appeared as a sneak preview at Cigar Aficionado’s Big Smoke 2018, where it was passed out to attendees at the Roll Your Own Cigar seminar, an event co-hosted by cigarmaker Perez-Carrillo and Ventura general manager Michael Giannini.
“Ernesto Perez-Carrillo is one-of-a-kind,” Giannini said. “He and I go way back. It made sense for us to team up and begin this new chapter of Archetype.”
Sacred Scales is rolled with a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, Ecuadoran binder and filler from Nicaragua. It’s billed as a full-bodied cigar and will ship to retailers in three sizes: Robusto, at 5 inches by 50 ring gauge ($9.99); Toro, measuring 6 by 52 ($11.49); and Gordo, 6 by 60 ($12.99). The cigars are packaged in 20-count boxes.
Dawn of Destiny is positioned as a medium-to-full bodied tobacco blend, draped in an Ecuadoran cover leaf with binder and filler tobacco from Nicaragua. The cigars come in the same three sizes as Sacred Scales with the same price points and box count.
The Archetype series is known for calling upon the talents of different cigar factories for its blends. Archetype Dreamstate and Sage Advice are rolled at Occidental Cigar Corp. in the Dominican Republic. Archetype Strange Passage is made in Honduras at AgroIndustrias Laepe S.A. The Initiation and Axis Mundi Archetype brands are made at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Nicaragua. And the Archetype Fantasy Miniseries, a series of three robustos, come out of Oliva Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua.
Both Sacred Scales and Dawn of Destiny are rolled at Tabacalera La Alianza S.A. in the Dominican Republic.
