Recent Cigar of the Year accolades have been awarded to La Flor Dominicana's Andalusian Bull (2016), My Father Le Bijou 1922 Torpedo Box Pressed (2015), Oliva Serie V Melanio Figurado (2014), Montecristo No. 2 (2013) and Flor de las Antillas Toro (2012).

Cigar Aficionado has named a Cigar of the Year continuously since 2004. There have been 13 Cigars of the Year to date with scores ranging from 93 to 97 points. All the ratings are conducted blind, and to become Cigar of the Year requires repeated top scores in blind tastings, so consistency is key.

Nicaragua has had more No. 1 cigars than any other nation, with seven, followed by Cuba with three. Cigars made by the Padrón family have scored a record three No. 1 cigars, more than any other producer. The Garcia family is the only other two-time winner, with two No. 1 cigars. Both the Padróns and Garcias make their cigars in Nicaragua.

The reigning Cigar of the Year is the La Flor Dominicana Andalusian Bull, which scored 96 points.
