Shadow Creek is as nearly private as any public course in the world, and Wynn offers the finest VIP-suite-to-tee access in the city, but when it comes to the most luxurious round of golf in Vegas, it is undoubtedly the relatively new Summit Golf Club, a very private and over-the-top residential community in Summerlin.
Summit is one of the latest properties from A-list community developer Discovery Land Co., whose most famous clubs include El Dorado in Los Cabos, Makena and Kukio in Hawaii, Playa Grande in the Dominican Republic, the Madison Club in Palms Springs, Mirabel in Scottsdale, CordeValle near Silicon Valley, and the Yellowstone Club in Montana.
In every case, Discovery is known for coupling top-notch golf architects to great pieces of land, limiting home sales and memberships to retain exclusivity and access, and accessorizing its communities with every imaginable deluxe bell and whistle, from fishing marinas to private ski lifts. “Everything has to be the best,” said a golfer who has played several Discovery projects, describing company founder Mike Meldman. “If he visits some golf club and there are four types of Band-Aids in the bathroom, he’ll offer five.”
The Summit already has golf, dining, bars, fishing and boats, but construction is underway on a monstrous 200,000-square-foot clubhouse complex cum spa, fitness center and much more, including residential space. But ironically, the company has become best known among discerning wealthy homeowners for its unrivaled “comfort stations,” stands along the golf courses that dispense a staggering array of food and top shelf beverages, all complimentary, including cooked-to-order live chef stations and fine whiskies.
Meldman is also George Clooney’s partner in upscale Casamigas Tequila, so you’ll find tee boxes are accessorized with in-ground, self-serve Tequila fridges. There’s a staffed massage table on the driving range and a good selection of Japanese whiskies in the clubhouse. The stunning golf course is designed by Las Vegas’ leading man Tom Fazio, and caddies are required. It’s a fantastic experience.
Outside play is strictly limited to members and their guests, so if you know anyone at Summit, it is a very good favor to call in. There are still a few properties for sale—and membership requires ownership. Summit offers just 150 custom home lots, including one owned by the original Vegas residency headliner (and golf lover) Celine Dion, who has lived on the course at Lake Las Vegas for years.
