Rocky Patel Premium Cigars is upgrading its popular Edge line with a pair of sawed-off 60 ring gauge cigars—the new B-52 Corojo and B-52 Maduro.
"Rocky wanted to come out with something short in the first quarter," said executive vice president Nish Patel. "It's been so cold in the United States and people just don't have time for a regular-sized cigar. So he wanted to do something that has a ton of flavor, that's a short smoke and bigger ring gauge that people can smoke in 45 minutes."
The Edge B-52 is still billed as a medium to full-bodied smoke in both the Corojo and Maduro versions. While Patel is not disclosing all the specifics of the filler, the cigars feature two binders—one Honduran, one Nicaraguan—and a ligero that Patel claims is very distinct.
"Panamanian ligero is one of the secret fillers," Patel told Cigar Insider. "That's in our normal Edge too."
The Edge B-52 is available in one size, a 4 1/2 inch long, 60 ring stub that sells for $6.85 and comes in boxes of 30. It's one of few short, squat smokes in the Rocky Patel portfolio, which features many petit coronas and small perfectos in its various lines. It has already shipped.
"We probably won't come out with a 60," said Patel, "but we'll likely come out with a 54 ring in Decade and some other lines too."
