Room101 Daruma Returning Next Month

The Room101 Daruma, which has not been made for many years, is back in production and should appear on the market in April.
First released in 2012, Room101 Daruma was previously made in Honduras and distributed by Davidoff of Geneva. It was an offshoot of the core Room101 cigar, which at the time was owned by the brand’s founder Matt Booth. After Booth and Davidoff parted ways, Daruma disappeared. But Room101 took an unexpected turn last year when corporate giant Scandinavian Tobacco Group announced that it had acquired Room101 cigars and taken on Booth as an employee.
Now that Daruma is coming back, a few things have changed. It has changed countries, and is now being made in Nicaragua by Oliva Cigar Co. And the new blend is entirely Nicaraguan, as opposed to the original, which was blended with Brazilian, Honduran, Dominican and Ecuadoran tobaccos. It has also gone from five sizes to one, a toro measuring 6 inches long by 50 ring gauge. The cigar will retail for $12.99, before taxes, when it ships sometime next month.
“The return of Daruma is symbolic of the relationship with STG and Room101 moving forward,” Booth said. “It represents the opportunity for Room101 to spread its wings which has always been our goal. And just as goals change and times change, Daruma has evolved.”
Daruma is named for the Japanese Daruma dolls, which symbolize good luck and resilience in Zen culture.
