Planning on purchasing a box of Rocky Patel Super Ligero at your local cigar shop? You might want to act fast. According to Rocky Patel Premium Cigars, brick-and-mortar retailers won’t be restocking the full-bodied smoke after existing inventory runs out. Soon, Rocky Patel Super Ligero will only be available through Internet and catalog retailer Cigars International.
“Super Ligero is no longer a brand in retail stores,” Mark Weissenberger, vice president of marketing at Rocky Patel, confirmed for Cigar Aficionado.
While there’s a number of brick-and-mortar and online retailers that still carry Rocky Patel Super Ligero (such as Texas-based Serious Cigars and Florida-based Smoke Inn), once the ligero-heavy smokes are gone from store shelves, they’re gone for good. Super Ligero will only be available for purchase through Cigars International, a massive catalog and Internet cigar retailer owned by Danish tobacco company Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
According to Rocky Patel Premium Cigars, the decision to transition Super Ligero into an Internet and catalog exclusive took place in the early Fall of last year. Before the cigar’s retail retirement—in the April 2017 issue of Cigar Aficionado—the Rocky Patel Super Ligero Lancero scored 90 points.
