Partagas 150s to be Auctioned for Katrina

Famous Smoke Shop is holding an online auction, which began this morning, and the rarest smoke on the block will benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The featured smoke is a 10-year-old box of Partagas 150 Signature Series Don Ramon cigars, which went on the block starting at 6 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time with a starting bid of $1,000. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to the American Red Cross.

The box was a gift from cigarmaker General Cigar Co. to Famous president Arthur Zaretsky in honor of his mother, Rose, who died at the age of 95 in May. "She was a very compassionate woman," said Zaretsky. "General Cigar and I couldn't think of a better tribute to my mother's memory than by donating this very rare box of cigars to [benefit] the victims of Hurricane Katrina."

General made only 1,000 boxes of the Don Ramons in 1995. The auction will run for a week, through Thursday, September 22.
