Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Barrel Fermented cigars soon will be a little easier to purchase. The collaboration smoke from Drew Estate and the famous Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery, once sold exclusively through Pappy Van Winkle’s website, is now being released to Drew Diplomat Retailers across the country.
Additionally, the two companies announced that they are adding the popular Flying Pig size to the line. The unique short-and-stumpy perfecto measures 3 15/16 inches by 60 ring gauge and is topped with a coil cap. The cigar will come in 12-count boxes that sell for $191.80, or about $15.98 each, and will be sold only online at pappyco.com.
Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Barrel Fermented, which debuted in 2015, is blended with two wrappers: a Kentucky-grown barrel fermented leaf over a Mexican San Andres leaf. Drew Estate refers to the process of combining wrappers as "tapa negra." The binder and filler is made up of all-Nicaraguan tobaccos.
The cigars come packed in boxes of 10 in the following vitolas: Robusto, at 5 1/4 inches by 52 ring gauge; Toro, 6 x 52; and Churchill, 7 by 48. They sell between $14 to $16.
