PA State Senate Passes Ban with Exemptions

A bill passed by the Pennsylvania state Senate this week could send smokers outdoors unless they are smoking in a casino, bar or private club.

According to a report from the Associated Press, a coalition of health associations pulled its support for the bill because it would extend partial or full exemptions to private clubs, bars and casinos.

On June 11, the Senate Appropriations Committee passed a comprehensive measure that would ban puffing inside restaurants, bars, casinos and virtually all indoor public spaces and workplaces. The full Senate approved the bill on Tuesday but with the new exemptions. Now, it will move along to be debated in the General Assembly.
