NYC Cigar Shop to Move Across the Street

Landmark tobacconist Nat Sherman, located on the corner of 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue in New York City, is moving across the street this summer. The shop's new home will be at 12 East 42nd on the southeast corner of Fifth Avenue.

"Even though the company had an option to remain in its present location, the opportunity to relocate to a larger, free-standing building was impossible to resist," said Joel Sherman, president of the company and the son of founder Nat Sherman. "We also wanted to remain in the same general neighborhood, so when we saw the possibilities in the new building for creating a grand and unique new Nat Sherman experience for our customers, we jumped at the chance."

The new store will occupy approximately 5,700 square feet on three floors, with more retail space than in the existing shop. Because of the ground floor's 30-foot-high ceilings, architects will be able to create a larger, grandiose facade that would not have been feasible in the current building. Hollywood set designer Charles McCarry was instrumental in the design of the current store and will be collaborating with architectural design firm Design Consortium to develop the final look of the new store.

Amenities will include a larger climate-controlled humidor room where clients can store their cigars in private lockers.

The Nat Sherman retail store has resided at its present location since 1991.
