Nights to Remember: A Hollywood Celebration

| From Tom Selleck, Winter 95/96

The stars came out in Hollywood on Monday, October 16, to honor Marvin R. Shanken, the editor and publisher of Cigar Aficionado magazine. The event, "Hollywood Salutes Marvin R. Shanken," benefitted the CapCure foundation, which funds research to find a cure to prostate cancer. Director and screenwriter James Orr, the event's chairman, limited the dinner to 100 attendees. The guests included actors Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Selleck, Jim Belushi, Pierce Brosnan, Peter Weller, Robert Davi, Joe Pantoliano, Michael Lerner and Seymour Cassel, among many others. Orr's co-chairmen included Creative Artists Agency agent Fred Specktor and Jack Rapke, the new co-chairman of CAA.

The dinner was held at the recently renovated Beverly Hills Hotel. The meal was highlighted by Dom Perignon 1985 in magnum, a Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne 1988 in double magnum, a 1983 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve in magnum and a 1970 Fonseca Port.
