New Toraño Family Cigar Gives Roman Salute

To the ancient Romans and today’s Latin scribes, the word salutem is used as a casual greeting. But to the cigar enthusiast, it will translate to a new brand from the Toraño Family Cigar Co.

Later this week at the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers trade show, Toraño will be unveiling Salutem, a line of smokes with an Ecuadoran Habano wrapper, Nicaraguan binder from Jalapa and a blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Cameroon filler tobacco. This will be the first time that Toraño has ever used Cameroon as filler tobacco in any of its blends, and according to the company, it’s the Cameroon leaves that give this cigar its “distinctive, rich cocoa flavor.”

Made in Nicaragua’s American Caribbean Cigars factory, Salutem will come packaged in boxes of 12 and is slated for four sizes: Robusto Extra, 5 inches by 52 ring; Toro major, 5 5/8 by 55; Piramide, 6 1/8 by 52; and BFC, 6 1/8 by 60. They will retail for $7.20 to $8.75 per cigar.

In addition to Salutem, Toraño has decided to take four of its most popular brands and add 4 1/4 inch by 60 ring gauge cigar to each called the LFC. Toraño’s Loyal, Master, Exodus 1959—50 Years and Vault series will each be getting this short, stout vitola.

They all come housed in a single display tray showcasing all four cigars but are offered for individual sale in the $6 to $7 range, depending on the brand. As for what LFC stands for, Toraño’s Bruce Lewis would only say “We leave it up to the individual's imagination.”
