New Retro-Style Cuban Coming Soon

The Cuban line of petit coronas that come in swanky, retro tins now includes a Hoyo de Monterrey. The new smoke— called the Hoyo de Monterrey Souvenir de Luxe—is the latest addition to the Línea Retro, a series of petit coronas packaged in retro-style, five-count tins. The cigars will be available in Switzerland’s La Casa del Habano shops on June 6, a week before the rest of the country’s Habanos retailers. Other markets around the world should be receiving the tins in the coming months.
Modeled after the vintage cigar tins from the 1960s and ’70s, the Línea Retro concept dates back to 2017. Like all the cigars in this series, the Hoyo de Monterrey Souvenir de Luxe measures 5 1/8 inches by 42 ring gauge. They’re set to retail for 77.50 Swiss francs or about $85.50 per tin, which works out to about $17 per cigar.
The upcoming Souvenir de Luxe is the fourth brand in the Línea Retro series, following the Romeo y Julieta Club Kings, the Partagás Capitols and the H. Upmann Regalias. With its curved, flask-like shape, two-part, telescoping format and embossed logos on a silver surface, the new Hoyo de Monterrey most resembles the H. Upmann tin in design.
Previous Línea Retro cigars have performed well in our blind tastings, scoring in the 90s. To see how the Hoyo de Monterrey Souvenir de Luxe measures up, see a future issue of Cigar Insider.
