For the first time in decades, the Cuban Punch brand is getting a new size. Called the Short de Punch, the 4 3/4 inch by 50 ring gauge robusto will be introduced this evening at a premier party in Switzerland at Zurich’s Hotel Storchen.
Hosts Habanos S.A. and its Swiss distributor Intertabak AG are expecting around 250 guests to attend.
While the Punch brand has had many recent special releases—Regional Editions, Edición Limitadas and a Casa del Habano exclusive—the core line has been steadily shrinking with no new additions in many years. The Short de Punch is also the first Punch in the regular portfolio to be rolled in a 50 ring gauge.
“This vitola offers a new option for those who prefer thick-gauge Habanos, this being the first 50 ring gauge to be incorporated within the brand,” Habanos stated in a release.
The Punch Short de Punch comes in 10-count, unvarnished wooden boxes that will retail for 133 Swiss Francs per box or 13.30 Swiss Francs per cigar ($13.50), in all La Casa del Habano and Habanos Specialist retail shops throughout Switzerland. The country currently has three La Casa del Habano stores and 20 Habanos Specialists.
