Nevada Relaxes Smoking Ban for Bars, Taverns

Cigar rights enthusiasts in Nevada can rejoice as the right for bar patrons to smoke with their meal has been reinstituted.

On June 17, Gov. Brian Sandoval signed a measure that permits age-restricting, stand-alone bars, taverns and saloons that allow smoking to also serve food, should they choose to do so. The law took effect immediately.

"As long as they don't allow for those under 21 to enter," wrote Glynn Loope, executive director of the CRA, in a press release. "Small businesses that had been suffering since the passage of the 2006 statewide smoking ban can now begin growing, again."

The news couldn't have come at a better time as Las Vegas prepares to host the 79th annual International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association trade show from July 17-21.

"A country that still have KuKluxKlan allowed also can allow laws against public health. Nevada human rights are under minimum with this law. They governor of Nevada is very worried about de profits of tobacco drug trafficking" —February 28, 2012 17:00 PM
"I think having age restricted smoking bars (21 and over) would be and is a great idea. Not doing this kills tourism and incoming money. Bars are traditionally a smoking establishment to begin with ppl know what there getting into when walking in, if you don't like it don't go in " —January 12, 2012 18:41 PM
"My state Michigan has the worst economy in the nation and we have a smoking ban killing more business. Gov. Rick Snyder could take some notes from Nevada. Give the people what they want collect the taxes and create jobs." —July 5, 2011 21:38 PM
"You gotta love a town that celebrates self indulgence with such wild abandon. Light 'em up boys .... and girls. " —June 28, 2011 16:30 PM
"It's too bad that ANY state has that silly law. It's a bar for pittys sake!!! Why not go back to smoking/ non smoking sections? I lived in Hawaii for 2 1/2 years and now back in Nashville ( for about 38 years ) which are two places that rely very heavily on the tourist dollar and have been hit hard by the smoking ban. It only makes good economic sense to lift it." —June 28, 2011 14:20 PM
"I couldn't believe that the people of Nevada passed this law to begin with, since they heavily rely on Tourism to keep them going, another situation of biting that hand that feeds you." —June 25, 2011 01:46 AM
