Arnold Schwarzenegger’s first real cigar was a Montecristo No. 2 that he lit up more than 40 years ago. He’s maintained a taste for Cubans even while conquering the worlds of bodybuilding, acting, business and politics, and his current smoke of choice is the Partagás Serie D No. 4. Schwarzenegger has also widened his sphere to include Fuente Fuente OpusX from the Dominican Republic.
He considers his house a gathering place for friends, where he encourages the sharing of his cigars. Years ago, Milton Berle took the policy a bit too far. The comedian arrived with some rare cigars, placing them in his host’s humidor as a birthday gift. As Berle was about to leave the house, Schwarzenegger offered him one more smoke. “I said, ‘Do you want another cigar for the road?’ and he said, ‘That would be great.’ He opens the humidor, grabs one, puts it in his pocket. Then says, ‘I’ll take another one if you don’t mind.’ Then he goes into the humidor and literally grabs all of the cigars. I said, ‘You just gave me all these cigars! ’” Berle put them all back. He didn’t need another smoke. “He says, ‘That’s how you deliver a fucking joke. That’s how you do humor.’ I fell for it 100 percent.”
