Mombacho Cigars Celebrates 10th Anniversary With Magnifico And Liga Maestro

Mombacho Cigars S.A., the company that manufactures the Tierra Volcán and Liga Maestro brands of cigars, celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and has created a cigar for the occasion. The 10th Anniversary Mombacho Magnifico combines tobaccos from the Tierra Volcán and Liga Maestro brands.

"We broke one of our main rules, which is not to mix tobaccos used in our different lines," said Claudio Sgroi, master blender at Mombacho. According to Sgroi, Magnifico is a Nicaraguan puro, using a shade-grown Habano viso wrapper from Jalapa. The binder is a leaf of Cuban-seed criollo from Condega, and the filler blend is more criollo from Condega (but different primings), as well as Cuban-seed ligeros from Jalapa.

Rolled in Granada, Nicaragua at the Casa Favilli factory, Magnifico measures 6 1/4 inches by 52 ring gauge and should retail for around $16, though Sgroi said the exact price is not yet finalized. Only 5,000 cigars will be produced, or 500 boxes of 10.

Magnificos were previewed at an anniversary dinner last month in Granada, but will be officially introduced at this year's IPCPR trade show.

As part of the celebration, Mombacho will also release the Liga Maestro to the U.S. market. Previously a cigar made exclusively for Italy, Liga Maestro will be available in four sizes set to retail from $5 to $11. The cigars are scheduled to reach North America on March 1.
