Mombacho Appoints Cam Heaps as New President

As Mombacho Cigars S.A. celebrates its 15th anniversary, the Nicaraguan cigar manufacturer turns to its founder for new leadership. Cam Heaps has been named president of Mombacho Cigars, the only major cigarmaker in Nicaragua’s colonial city of Granada.
Although Heaps founded Mombacho in 2006, he only served on the company’s board in an advisory capacity. Now that he’s accepted this operational position, Heaps has replaced Claudio Sgroi, who served a dual role as Mombacho’s president and master blender. Sgroi is also a partner with the company and can now concentrate on product development while Heaps assumes more hands-on responsibilities.
“It is an honor to be joining Claudio and the Mombacho family in Nicaragua. Their hard work, passion and warm spirits have positioned us well for continued success and growth,” said Heaps.
Mombacho produces such cigars as the Diplomático by Mombacho, Liga Maestro and Tierra Volcan, all of which are made in Granada at Casa Favilli, a neoclassical mansion-turned-factory.
“It’s great to have Cam now heading operations,” Sgroi said. “His deeper involvement will be crucial for taking Mombacho to the next level. As business partners and colleagues, we are excited for what the future holds for Mombacho.”
