Minnesota County Passes Strict Smoking Ban

County, the most populous county in Minnesota, has approved a ban that
prohibits smoking on all county-owned property, even if a person is smoking in his or her
own vehicle on that property.
On March 29, the Hennepin County Board approved, by a vote of 6 to 1, an ordinance that bars smoking on all county-owned or leased property, save for roads and a special area reserved at the county hospital's psychiatric ward.
According to a report in the Star Tribune, the line dissenter on the board, Commissioner Jeff Johnson, attempted to amend the legislation to allow smoking in one's own vehicle, but was unsuccessful.

The new policy will be enforced with signs and takes effect July 1, starting with downtown county buildings.
