Minnesota’s hopes of watching their Vikings play a home-field Super Bowl may be squandered after yesterday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but at least they’ll have a special cigar to smoke when the big game heads to U.S. Bank Stadium on February 4.
In what has become something of an annual tradition, La Flor Dominicana has again released its special Football Edition cigar to retailers in the host state of the Super Bowl. The unique figurados, affixed with a football-shape design on the wrapper, began shipping to Minnesota tobacconists today.
La Flor Dominicana Football Edition 2018 contains the same blend as the 2017 edition. The binder and filler are all Dominican. The wrapper is Ecuadoran Habano and the football design, as well as the cap and a strip on the foot, is made from Connecticut-seed tobacco also grown in Ecuador. The figurado shape, measuring 6 1/2 inches by 60 ring gauge, closely resembles the 2017 edition. The only difference is the foot of the cigar, which is straight cut. Last year, the foot was cut on an angle.
Only 450 boxes of Football Edition 2018 will be sold. They come packaged in boxes of 10 and retail for $16 per cigar.
Upcoming Super Bowl LII—featuring a matchup between the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles—marks the fourth time La Flor has produced a cigar for this occasion. Litto Gomez and his team made 1,500 boxes of a similar cigar for Texas retailers last year before Super Bowl 51 in Houston. And previous iterations, in different vitola sizes, were released in California for Super Bowl 50 and Arizona for Super Bowl 49.
