La Aroma de Cuba Adds Two New Sizes

The La Aroma de Cuba brand has added two more vitolas to its portfolio—a corona and a double corona—bringing the brand to eight sizes total. Owned by Philadelphia-based Ashton Distributors Inc., La Aroma de Cuba is made in Nicaragua at My Father Cigars S.A.

“They’re the smallest and largest sizes in the line” said Sathya Levin, vice president of Ashton.

When the brand was introduced in 2003, La Aroma de Cuba was marketed as a premium value brand. At the time, it was made in Honduras at Flor de Copan, a factory owned by Altadis U.S.A. Inc. But in 2009, Ashton turned over production to José “Pepin” Garcia in Nicaragua. The cigar was reblended and the line was reintroduced, going from 10 sizes to only five. La Aroma de Cuba remained a value brand, and as the cigar started to regain popularity, Ashton slowly added sizes, beefing up the portfolio, which is now up to nine regular-production vitolas.

“The brand is growing very quickly, and we are getting a lot of requests for new sizes,” Levin said.

The Double Corona measures 7 1/2 inches by 52 ring and retails for $6.35. The Corona is 5 1/2 by 44 and retails for $5. Both come in boxes of 25.

La Aroma de Cuba consists of a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper and an all-Nicaraguan internal blend.
