The ITS Hub hybrid trade show scheduled to replace the InterTabac cigar and tobacco convention in Germany has been canceled. It was supposed to take place on November 3 and 4 at the Dortmund Exhibition Centre as a combination of both physical and virtual show that was compliant with Covid-19 safety measures. But Messe Dortmund GmbH, the company that organizes InterTabac, isn’t taking any chances.
“The way infections have been trending over the last few weeks has unfortunately made our plans for this successful ITS Hub pilot considerably more difficult to achieve,” said Sabine Loos, managing director of Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe GmbH, Messe Dortmund’s parent company. “Feeding the online part of a hybrid event with content for virtual visitors naturally requires a panoply of physical events, but the travel associated with being physically present remains a real challenge—especially for international participants—and in the end this is what led to the event being canceled.”
The InterTabac trade show, colloquially referred to as “the Dortmund show” in the American cigar business, has grown in prominence in recent years, with an increasing number of premium cigar companies in attendance. Next year’s InterTabac show is scheduled for September 16 to 18.
