Getting involved in the fight to protect handmade cigars from FDA regulations just got a bit easier with the launch of Cigaraction.org, a new grassroots advocacy site from the International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers association.
The new website was launched yesterday to coincide with a new IPCPR grassroots campaign that calls upon cigar industry members and enthusiasts to urge Congress to support a premium cigar exemption provision in the annual spending bill. The provision, known as the Cole-Bishop language, exempts premium cigars from FDA regulations and was introduced by Reps. Tom Cole (R-OK) and Sanford Bishop (D-GA) in the 2019 House Agricultural Appropriations Bill (H.R. 5961).
Cigaraction.org offers IPCPR members and cigar enthusiasts intuitive tools to contact elected officials, sign up for email alerts and a “Grassroots Toolbox” with sample posts, hashtags and imagery for people to post to their social networking accounts. According to Daniel Trope, senior director of federal government affairs for IPCPR, the email alert system “will cover a wide range of issues at the federal and state policy levels that are of importance to our retail members, their customers and the broader cigar industry.”
“This site will be a great resource not just for retailers, but for the broader public to get involved with public policy issues that affect premium cigars,” said Trope. “Over time, this site will serve as the epicenter of IPCPR’s grassroots engagement with the cigar community for multiple federal and state initiatives.”
