Habanos S.A. has announced the dates for the 19th Festival del Habanos, the world's largest Cuban cigar party. The cultural cigar celebration will begin on Monday, February 27, and run through Friday, March 3. The official announcement did not reveal the featured cigar for this year's event.
The Festival draws more than a thousand people every year to Havana. The attendees include the global distributors for Cuban cigars, leading retailers, including the owners of Casas del Habano, the franchise retail shops for Habanos S.A., journalists and consumers from around the world. The five-day event features gala dinners, trips to tobacco plantations in Pinar del Río, and special guided tours of Havana's biggest cigar factories.
One of the Festival's biggest draws is the opportunity for guests to sample most, if not all, of the upcoming cigars months before the actual commercial release. This includes both regular-production cigars as well as a multitude of limited-edition smokes.
The festival also provides a full daily schedule of seminars at Havana's large convention center. Topics in the past have included the detailed process of making cigars, the perfect match between cigars and various alcoholic beverages, and a contest among cigar sommeliers, who ply their trade in various countries.
There is also a trade show with booths from many different countries showing items like custom humidors and other cigar accessories. The largest display is always Habanos S.A. own booth, showcasing the cigar featured at the event, and some of the new cigars slated for release during the following year.
