A charity dinner at the opulent Grand Havana Room in New York City promises an evening of cigar celebrities and never before seen cigars.
The Night at the Grand Havana Room event will be hosted by Dr. Jude Barbara, with the support of the Fuente and Newman families (of Arturo Fuente Cigars and J.C. Newman Cigar Co.). All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit organization that aims to uplift the lives of children and families in the Dominican Republic through education, health care and empowerment.
"We have 500 children at the foundation at present, of which over 94 percent go on to college, a number that is mind-boggling," said Barbara. "Our goal is to double the enrollment to 1,000 children as soon as possible."
"All of the money raised at the event will go 100 percent to the cause, that is, to increasing the availability of education to those who otherwise could never have dreamed of the possibility—hence changing an entire generation. Thanks to the backing of the Fuente and Newman families, any shortfall in the monies raised is directly provided by them."
Barbara has a long history of raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Last year, he paid a visit to the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation in the Dominican Republic and decided he wanted to help change the lives of a generation of children in the country.
"We certainly have and will always support St. Jude's but we use this phenomenal charity to show us the way to become successful in this other venture, yet again helping children who cannot do it by themselves," Barbara said.
The Night at the Grand Havana Room takes place Friday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. inside the Grand Havana Room in New York City. A $2,000 donation is required to attend. To inquire about seating, please call 646-522-5481.
