Four Kicks Capa Especial Gets A Lancero

In a market increasingly dominated by thicker ring gauge cigars, a slender new contender will be coming next month from Nashville-based company Crowned Heads. A limited-edition lancero has been added to the Four Kicks Capa Especial line, which is made by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo in the Dominican Republic. The Four Kicks brand hasn’t had a lancero since 2018 when one was released in the Maduro line.
“We’re extremely excited to bring the Capa Especial Lancero to market,” Crowned Heads co-founder Jon Huber said. “The lancero is such a storied vitola and it’s been absent from our portfolio for over four years.”
Topped with a pigtail cap, the Four Kicks Capa Especial Lancero LE 2022 measures 7 1/2 inches by 38 ring gauge. The blend consists of an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and filler from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. It has a suggested retail price of $11.95 each.
Production will be limited to 2,500 boxes containing 12 cigars.
Four Kicks Capa Especial, which was commercially released in spring 2020, dates back to 2011 when Crowned Heads first started. It was one of three prototype blends made in collaboration with Perez-Carrillo when finalizing the company’s debut brand, Four Kicks. The rejected prototype was shelved. When Four Kicks decided to revisit the blend and give it a commercial release, Capa Especial performed well in Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Insider blind tastings. The Robusto appeared on the Top 25 list of 2020, earning the No. 20 spot.
Like the rest of the line, the Capa Especial Lancero LE 2022 is made in the Dominican Republic at Perez-Carrillo’s Tabacalera La Alianza factory.
