The Four Kicks Capa Especial blend from Crowned Heads is now available in a figurado shape called the Four Kicks Capa Especial Águilas LE 2021. The limited-edition smoke started shipping this week.
Measuring 5 1/2 inches by 50 ring gauge, this double-tapered cigar has a retail price of $10.95 and comes in 12-count boxes, of which only 3,000 will be released. They are made in the Dominican Republic at Ernesto Perez-Carrillo’s La Alianza factory and consist of an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from both Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
The origins of the Capa Especial Águilas LE 2021 date back to 2011, when Mike Conder and Jon Huber of Crowned Heads worked with Perez-Carrillo for the creation of the Four Kicks brand. When the trio were smoking through prototype blends, Perez-Carrillo favored one while Conder and Huber favored the other, which eventually became the blend for the Four Kicks core line.
Afterwards, Perez-Carrillo presented Huber with a single cigar of his preferred blend rolled in an unusual figurado. The shape was inspired by the discontinued Cuban Romeo y Julieta Águilas from the 1960s and 1970s. The Four Kicks Capa Especial Águilas LE 2021 is modeled after the cigar that Perez-Carrillo handed to him, which Huber says he still has in his humidor today.
The preferred blend by Perez-Carrillo, which features a Sumatra-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador, was released by Crowned Heads in August 2020 as Four Kicks Capa Especial, with the Robusto size earning the No. 20 spot of Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2020.
