Davidoff unveiled today at Art Basel Hong Kong the first Limited Art Edition boxes in its series of commissioned original designs.
Critically acclaimed Caribbean artist Quisqueya Henríquez is the first artist in the program, which was launched in 2012. Henríquez, who was born in Cuba and now lives in the Dominican Republic, says the art was inspired by the tobacco leaf after asking to tour Davidoff's Santiago tobacco fields and visit the company's factories to see how the cigars are rolled.
The production includes two, limited-edition boxes with her artwork adorning the lid. Both are limited to a run of 3,000. Each box will contain 10 Dominican-puro perfectos measuring 5 15/16 inches by 54 ring gauge. Each cigar will be adorned with a secondary band matching its box's artwork.
The MSRP per cigar is $35. The company says part of the proceeds will be funneled back into the residency program that allowed Henríquez to produce these works for future artists. They'll be shipping next week.
