Cubans Announce Release Of Last Limitada For 2016

If you've been searching the globe for that one missing Edición Limitada from last year—the Montecristo Dantes—Habanos S.A. just announced that it will be arriving to "different points of sales worldwide in the coming weeks."

Though the term "coming weeks" is a bit vague, it's safe to say that these 6 5/8 inch by 48 ring gauge cigars are on their way. Called Hermosos No. 1 in Cuban cigar factories, the Dantes come packaged in 10-count boxes.

The official press release, however, is a bit curious, as it not only announced the release of the elusive Montecristo Dantes, but also the Trinidad Topes and the Romeo y Julieta Capuletos. Both have been available in the global market for months. And both the Trinidad and the Romeo y Julieta have been rated by either Cigar Aficionado or Cigar Insider.

Habanos characterizes the Montecristo Dantes as being medium to full bodied in strength.

"Sadly, Mr. Bretz, they are fakes. The 2016 Montecristo Edicion Limitada is as you see it here in the article. There are no Montecristo Edicion Limitadas for 2017. This year, the Edicion Limitadas will be different brands and they have not been released yet. You will most likely see them in autumn. I highly recommend you stop using whatever source connected you to those fraudulent cigars." —February 27, 2017 12:23 PM
"I have a five pack of Montecristo Edicion Limitada 2017 Torpedo - are they fakes? I can find no info on these cigars. The box had all the normal seals." —February 25, 2017 11:28 AM
