The Day of the Dead cigar from Crowned Heads is back. Las Calaveras EL 2018 is the fifth installment in the limited-edition Las Calaveras series, a brand that aims to celebrate the lives and memories of those who have passed away.
This year’s version marks the first time the cigar has been rolled with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper. The cigar will start shipping to retailers the first week in June.
“As 2018 marks the five-year anniversary of the Las Calaveras marca, we felt it apropos to utilize a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, which finishes a 100 percent Nicaraguan tobacco binder and filler blend,” said Crowned Heads co-founder Jon Huber.
Las Calaveras EL 2018 comes in four sizes: LC46, at 5 5/8 inches by 46 ring gauge; LC50, 5 by 50; LC54, 6 by 54; and a fourth size measuring 5 1/2 inches by 56 that is only available as part of a four-cigar sampler. The cigars will retail from $9.95 to $11.95, save for the sampler, which retails for $42.95.
The EL 2018 ships in green and black, 24-count boxes and the four-count sampler format. Only 1,700 boxes of each size will be released—except for the sampler with its exclusive vitola. Only 3,000 sampler boxes will ship to retailers.
“We drew heavy packaging inspiration from the vibrant colors of the Dia de los Muertos holiday,” Huber said.
Las Calaveras was introduced in 2014. Since its inception, the brand has been rolled at the My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, owned by the Garcia family.
