Some 100 guests gathered at New York City's Nat Sherman Tobacconist last week for the launch party of the Quesada 40th, a commemorative cigar brand created in honor of Manuel "Manolo" Quesada's 40 years in the cigar business.
Cigar Aficionado smoked prototypes of new brand in February at the ProCigar Festival in the Dominican Republic, and now the cigar is on sale for the first time at cigar shops throughout the United States.
In attendance were Manuel Quesada, his daughters Patricia and Raquel as well as nephew Hostos Quesada, all of whom were instrumental in helping to blend this cigar.
"I've been doing this for 40 years," Quesada said as he addressed the crowd at the cigar store. "The fact that I'm still here making cigars tells me that I've been doing something right."
Three core-line sizes are available: a 5 inch by 52 ring gauge Robusto (which carries a suggested retail price of $8.95); Toro, 6 by 54 ($9.50); and Toro Real, 6 by 65 ($9.95), while two limited-edition sizes complement the regular-production line. One is the box-pressed Toro Press, 6 by 49 ($10.95), and the other is a unique, double-tapered figurado that is flatly pressed in the middle and bulbous on either end. It's aptly named the Salomon Press and measures 6 3/4 by 50.
Made in the Dominican Republic at the Quesada Cigars factory, the Quesada 40th consists of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco with an oily, near-black Mexican San Andrés wrapper.
