The cigar industry has given us no shortage of ways to commemorate the Chinese New Year, and Cuba has just offered one more—a high-gloss humidor full of 88 Cohiba Shorts. The humidor is lacquered in a grand-piano finish and decorated with striking Year of the Ox imagery along with the iconic Cohiba branding.
Cohiba Shorts are Cuban cigarillos, or miniature cigars, 3 1/4 inches long by 26 ring gauge and made by machine. Not to be confused with Cohiba Clubs or Cohiba Minis (which are both slimmer, and also machine made) Cohiba Shorts were launched in 2016 and typically come in carboard packs of 10.
The humidors went on sale last week, and prices vary from country to country. In Switzerland, it retails for 218.80 Swiss Francs (about $238.50). In Germany, it sells for 188 euros (about $227).
Cuba has sold Cohiba Short humidors before, but those contained only 50 cigarillos—eight is considered a lucky a number in Chinese culture. Only 5,000 of these Year of the Ox humidors were produced.
