David Ozgo will be named the next president of the Cigar Association of America. He replaces Craig Williamson, who held that position for nearly 20 years.
“On behalf of the board of directors, I am very pleased to announce that, for only the third time in almost 30 years, CAA has hired a new president,” said Javier Estades, who not only serves as CAA chairman, but is also the president and CEO of tobacco giant Tabacalera USA Inc.
For the last two decades, Ozgo was senior vice president of economic and strategic analysis at the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS), an advocacy group for the distilled spirits industry.
“We believe David has demonstrated the ability at DISCUS to develop data-driven solutions to industry issues, to successfully deliver the industry’s message in different forums and mediums, and to work constructively with various segments of an industry whose members vary greatly in size and product portfolio,” Javier added. “These are skills CAA and the cigar industry need to navigate through current and upcoming regulatory and legislative challenges.”
Ozgo officially steps into his new role on December 6.
