It has been 19 years since the terrible day where New York City and the United States was rocked by the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. To this day, the impact can still be felt, especially by those who lost someone.
Robert Caldwell, owner of Caldwell Cigar Co., Tony Bellato, owner of La Barba Cigar Ltd., and Jaclyn Sears, who provides the design work, have teamed up with Protocol Cigars for the latest Lost & Found program to create ONE, a limited-production cigar that will be sold to benefit first responders and their families. All proceeds will be donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which offers programs such as paying off the mortgages of the families of fallen responders and a mobile 9/11 memorial exhibit.
“In the continued wake of 9/11 and its impact on first responders and their families, we wanted to do something to benefit those who sacrificed and selflessly put their lives on the line to save New Yorkers during the 9/11 attacks,” Caldwell said. “We worked closely with Protocol Cigars to find the right foundation and also to help carry the marketing message forward.”
Shipping later this month, ONE will come in a single robusto size measuring 5 inches by 50 ring gauge. Rolled at Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic, ONE is a Dominican puro consisting of a Dominican Habano wrapper and binder with a filler mix of Piloto, Criollo ’98 and Corojo. The cigars will ship in 10-count bundles and the run is limited to only 600 bundles, or 6,000 cigars total. The suggested retail price for the bundle is $110.00.
The artwork features the First Responder flag, which is an American flag with multi-colored stripes, each honoring a different branch: yellow for dispatch; blue for law enforcement; gray for corrections; red for fire department; white for emergency medical services; and green for armed forces.
Caldwell stated that the cigars are expected to begin shipping in approximately 10 to 14 days.
“It is a pleasure and an honor to be involved with this project. Being a first responder during 9/11 and seeing firsthand how bad things were, it is great to be involved with this cigar. It’s nice to feel appreciation for putting our lives on the line and paying homage to those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. We are thankful to Caldwell Cigars and Lost & Found for including us in this project,” said Juan Cancel of Protocol Cigars.
Lost & Found is a series of cigars by Caldwell, Bellato and Sears that are released to benefit various charities. ONE is the third such cigar, and the previous two, NO FREE LUNCH and GIVE A F---, benefited homeless hunger and inner-city education, respectively.
