He’s made Nicaraguan versions of almost every major Cuban brand, and now, cigarmaker A.J. Fernandez can add one more to his list. Earlier this month, Forged Cigar Co. released the El Rey del Mundo by AJ, a limited-edition, Nicaraguan-heavy interpretation of this heritage Cuban brand.
Produced in Estelí, Nicaragua at Fernandez’s factory, the new El Rey del Mundo consists almost entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco save for the Connecticut broadleaf binder. According to the company, this will be more full-bodied than typical El Rey del Mundos, which are made in Honduras.
“Powered by a Nicaraguan-forward blend, A.J.’s take on El Rey delivers a fuller-bodied smoking experience,” said Steve Abbot, director of marketing for Scandinavian Tobacco Group, parent company of Forged. “We believe this blend will capture the attention of smokers who might not have tried the brand before.”
The new cigar is offered in only one size, a Toro that measures 6 inches by 52 ring gauge. The cigars retail for $11.99 each, and come in 10-count boxes. Only 3,800 boxes are being released.
