For the first-time ever, a Macanudo-branded cigar lounge has set up shop across the pond.
The new cigar retailer and lounge is called Cigar Shop Macanudo, and it celebrated its grand opening in Copenhagen last Friday. The shop was previously named Davidoff My Own Blend and is owned by the Scandinavian Tobacco Group, the Danish holding company of the General Cigar Co., makers of the Macanudo brand.
The rebranding of the Copenhagen location, according to Scandinavian Tobacco, was a move to showcase one of its own brands at a retail level. Cigar Shop Macanudo will continue to offer Davidoff products and a sizable inventory of Cuban cigars in addition to General Cigar brands like CAO and Macanudo.
The location features a large, walk-in humidor and a lounge that seats up to 25 patrons. Unlike Club Macanudo locations in the United States, there is neither a bar nor restaurant on the premises. The space is limited to a retail shop and lounge.
Club Macanudo once operated in several U.S. cities, but locations in Chicago, Miami and Washington, D.C. have since shut down. However, the original Club Macanudo in New York recently celebrated 20 years of business and a second Macanudo—branded location-called Club Macanudo at The Knick—opened last July atop Manhattan's Knickerbocker Hotel.
