2018 Retailer Survey: Pádron Tops Best-Selling Premium Cigars List
Padrón, Arturo Fuente, Ashton, Davidoff and Rocky Patel (left to right) are among the best-selling cigar brands in America.

Business is up, Arturo Fuente is the hottest brand, Padrón is the best seller, and retailers are still worried about the FDA. These were the primary results of our yearly retailer survey that appeared in the July 10 issue of Cigar Insider.

This year, Cigar Insider surveyed 105 cigar-store owners and managers representing 174 brick-and-mortar cigar shops across the country. It’s our 23rd annual poll of U.S. retail shops, and despite the common grievances over high taxes and the internet, 2018 has, so far, been a positive year. Nearly 62 percent of the retailers who took our survey reported that their sales had increased over the levels posted the previous year.

It should come as no surprise that the specter of regulation by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration still looms large over the premium cigar industry.

In terms of volume, our poll showed that the best-selling premium cigar brand in America is Padrón. More than 45 percent of retailers named Padrón as one of their highest-selling cigar brands, making Padrón our No. 1 seller. The Miami-based company, which makes all of its cigars in Nicaragua, ranked No. 2 in last year’s poll, and swapped positions with last year’s No. 1 seller, Arturo Fuente.
