Despite those distinctions, Robinson never reached the NBA Finals until 1999. He heard about his post-season failures from scribes more frequently than he heard reveille. To many observers, Robinson seemed less aggressive on offense in the playoffs and was reluctant to take big shots when his team needed it. Dennis Rodman, a teammate of Robinson's in 1994, scoffed that Robinson should retire and take advantage of his "Born Again" Christianity to join the clergy.

In the 1999 Finals, Robinson got redemption. He and Tim Duncan combined for 44 points, 26 rebounds and 5 blocks per game and the Spurs' defense held New York to 80 points per game as San Antonio won its first championship. In 2003, Robinson's last year, the duo repeated, winning their second title in five seasons. v
