Green Cigar Production?
How do you make a green cigar?
Posted: March 5, 2012
Heat. Lots of it.
Green, or candela, cigars are uncommon today (Illusione, Arturo Fuente, La Flor Dominicana, just to name a few, still roll them), but they were once the most popular cigars smoked in the United States.
The wrappers are made green by heat-curing the tobacco quickly, which locks in the chloraphyl in the leaf. Candelas tend to be mild.
