Fuente Documentary Film

The camera zooms through the streets of Santiago, Dominican Republic. Through the twisting turns and past bustling storefronts, it opens the front door of the Fuente cigar factory and peers into the birthplace of the OpusX. The new documentary film, part of the Fuente Fuente OpusX Tenth Anniversary DVD Gift Set, which includes two Fuente Fuente OpusX cigars, chronicles the history of the Fuente family. Produced by Prometheus International Inc., the maker of cigar accessories and humidors, it celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Fuente Fuente OpusX cigar by taking you inside and behind the scenes of one of the industry's great cigarmakers.

Many aficionados have longed to visit the Fuente factory: taking in the smell of rich tobacco, smoking a torpedo and watching experienced cigar makers doing what they do best. The film offers the viewer time in this cigar Shangri-la: a first hand tour of the Fuente humidors from Carlos Fuente and Carlos Fuente Jr., heads of Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia., and a glance into the Fuente home, as well as two Fuente Fuente OpusX Reserva D'Chateau cigars, two welcomed companions to enhance home viewing.

However, this is only scratching the surface. Life in the factory has not always been easy. The two-part documentary film, The Fuente Family: An American Dream and Fuente Fuente OpusX: Making of a Legend, illustrates that like many success stories, the Fuentes' has been built by failure, hardship, perseverance and guts. Fires, embargoes, and political turmoil were only a few of the hurdles jumped by a family who continually had to build and rebuild.

Directed and narrated by James Orr, whose filmography includes Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and Three Men and a Baby, the film features in-depth interviews with Carlos and Carlos Jr., paging through 100 years of family history, from when the Fuente family left Cuba for the United States at the turn of the twentieth century, to their harvesting of the first wrapper tobacco in 1992 from Chateau de la Fuente, and up to the success they enjoy today.

The Fuente Fuente OpusX Tenth Anniversary gift set retails for $50. It includes the DVD, the OpusX cigars and a behind-the-scenes look at the filming. Look for it at retail tobacconists this summer.
