More than 100 cigarmakers, cigar retailers, cigar industry executives and politicians gathered in the last of Tampa's cigar factories on February 26 to project a unified stance supporting Florida's beleaguered cigar industry.
The meeting, called The Florida Cigar Summit, was held to send a unified message to Florida politicians seeking their help to protect the state's cigar industry.
The summit was held at Tampa's J.C. Newman Cigar Co., where cigars are still made. More than 70 percent of the cigars sold in the United States come through Florida, according to the group.
