Cuba Cuts Cigar Portfolio

It may be time to stock up on some of your favorite Cuban cigars before they're gone forever. Habanos S.A., the worldwide distributor of Cuban cigars, plans to discontinue several cigars this year, but that doesn't mean that there aren't some left on store shelves. While some of the items scheduled for deletion are simply package configurations, many sizes will be gone completely.
The Saint Luis Rey brand, for example, is taking a large hit. Its Churchill, Corona and Petit Corona sizes will no longer be made, reducing the brand to less than five shapes, or vitolas. Say goodbye to the large Punch Churchill, the Punch Royal Selection No. 11, and the Punch Royal Selection No. 12.
Many thin cigars are headed for extinction. Vegueros Especiales No. 1 and No. 2—slim, pigtailed smokes— are slated for discontinuation, which will leave only two sizes in the Vegueros brand (the Mareva and the Seoane). The La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No. 1 and No. 2 (36 and 43 ring gauges, respectively); Quai D'Orsay Panetela (33 ring); Partagas Serie du Connaisseur Nos. 1, 2 and 3 (all slimmer than 40 ring gauge); and El Rey del Mundo Grande de España (only 38 ring) are all being eliminated from the Habanos catalog.
